2'9 x 10'3 Qashqai Tribal Runner / Persian Runner

Regular price $0.01

Woven by the famous Qashqai nomads in late 19th Century, this wool rug from southern Persia is a true gem. Most tribe members who wove these rugs used many warm and dark or bold colors that we typically see, but here we have such sensational color ways on an ivory ground. This is a great find!

Like their great culture and tribe members who have a tight knit community as well as great song and story, their rugs are distinct, well known and have a lot of appeal.

This Qashqai is a wool on wool foundation runner, with super soft wool and it is in amazing condition. The runner has great symbolism, detail and artistry. The field of this beautiful old rug is an allover paisley design also known as boteh. This is a very meaningful element that symbolizes life or the concept of eternity. You may find many different cultures using this element in Persian art, rugs and architecture for thousands of years. We also notice animal elements in the rug, just so tribal!

A true art form, these special rugs continue to hold a special place on our hearts! The Qashqai say, "Where I am, is my carpet. Where my carpet and I am, is my home.”

Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool circa 1880.
