3'1" x 4'4" Antique Shirvan Rug (#1680)

Regular price $0.01

From the region of Caucasus, this antique vegetable dyed wool Shirvan rug embodies great style, geometric and bold design, and richness in color that are traditional features of these rugs. Shirvan is located just to the south of the Caucasus mountain and these rugs are the most rare and most sought after, and are the most finely knotted and sophisticated antique carpets of the Caucaus region, coming from expert dyers and weavers.

These nomads included in their work of art many elements throughout the rug that has great symbolism as well as symmetry. In the weaver's work, you will notice the pinwheels of life and stars of wisdom. They believed wisdom is wealth. This rug sits on a madder red backdrop, and features aqua blue, indigo blue (appears black), dark mustard yellow, and ivory.

This is a stout Shirvan, ready for another century of use, is in excellent condition, with some lovely timeworn wear.

Size: 3'1" x 4'4" Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool, from the late 19th century.
