3'5" x 15'3" NW Persian Runner #2271

Regular price $2,250.00

blThis is late 19th Century runner. We go bananas for these because they don't come around often enough. At first glance, it resembles Caucasian runners very much, with it's bold natural colors and geometric design with diamond medallions running down the field, but it is actually a great Persian. It's exquisite, charming, and truly breaths age, history, culture. This beautifully worn runner is hand knotted with old world wool and is also on a wool foundation. The vegetable dyes come from plant, root and flower.

After over a century, the colors are calm, yet bold at the same time. In one of the medallions, you will notice the animal elements that the artisan wove. So tribal! The nomad who was weaving was most likely a woman and the wool was undoubtedly from her own family’s sheep.

On a charcoal ground. Worn. Has a small patch on border.

Nothing synthetic here! Just a remarkable work of art that likely took a couple years to produce, and with a few dyers and weavers. You will notice variation in the natural dyes from different batches as well as a change in hands at the loom with the design and pattern in the rug.
