2x2 Antique Persian Saddle bag #1411 / Saddlebag Bag Face

Regular price $0.01

From the late 19th Century, this is a saddle bag face and we only have a few in the collection. This specific one is tribal and from important Qashqai tribe and from the southwest of Persia. The tribe from which this bag face comes from is notable. It was woven for their own use and traveled with them, as these folks moved frequently based on season/weather. It features several, symbolic motifs that were meaningful to the nomads.

Originally, this bag face was a saddle bag that was used by the tribe members on their livestock (typically camels, but also donkeys, and goats) to hold, carry and transport their goods. Typically, there would be two pouches bridged by a middle section that would sit on the back of the camel. For older pieces such as this one, it is only the bag face that we are left to cherish.

It can be styled on a vanity, credenza, dresser, etc for beautiful decor. Another idea is to use it as a wall hanging. However you style it, this little saddle bag has a great deal of history to add.

This handwoven piece is in worn condition. The raw, wool foundation is remarkable to see and feel. All the dyes you see are natural, vegetable dyed wool.

From the late 1800s.

Exact size is 2' x 2'3
