This is an amazing Caucasian (Russian origin) Soumak rug from the early 1900s and we're so lucky to have found it. This wool on wool, flat weave rug was made in the mountains and it features medallions and intricate motifs throughout. The lovely rug lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak.
This rug is worn and with a ton of character. The backdrop of this is rusty brick red with variations of the vegetable dyed wool color throughout. It is highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home. Please note: this rug has some old repairs and is fully intact. We don’t recommend flat weave rugs for areas of high traffic as the nature of these rugs are thinner than others in the collection.
