9'2 x 11'9 Vintage Samarkand Rug (#1109ML)

Regular price $6,300.00

From along the ancient Silk Road, there was a very special spot in the desert known as Khotan, where this Samarkand rug was woven, by women of what is believed to be the Uzbek and Kyrgyz tribe. This wonderful vintage rug from circa 1940 is one to celebrate, with subdued dyes and large scale floral art that comes from the influence of a variety of cultures.

On a classic ivory ground, this superb wool rug point to a definite and masterful touch of Persian, Chinese and Indian influences, simply because it comes from a major crossroads of trading, where many goods, people and culture would pass through this historical and old road and it all played into these works of art we call Samarkand rugs.

This rug, dating back to around the 1940s has a beautiful garden like design with over-scale floral medallions and vines, in a lattice like pattern. It is low pile wool rug on an ivory ground. In great condition for its age. Please note: There is one tiny patch on this rug, as pointed out in pic.

We recommend a rug pad to keep this old baby nice n snug. You can order one in house and we’ll custom cut if for you, if you like!
