AMAZING AND MYSTICAL FLOOR ART...

This late 19th Century worn Persian Bakhshayesh from the mountains in Northwest Persia is a work of art that has has seen time and still keeps on ticking. If you have been looking at rugs for a while you can see how distinct this beauty is. This magnificent piece took years and multiple weavers to produce. The artisans went for bold and beautiful; it was likely made to order back in the day, we're talking the 1880s! It is an antique rug with great presence and strength, sizing up at nearly 14x17 and everyone who will visit will undoubtedly notice the floor art before their very eyes.

This rug owns a lot of time and character. Abundant with large geometric medallions, this piece has all over art with a lot of presence and power. The antique ivory ground color is exquisite and just as hard to find in old rugs as its size is. The contrast is illustrated with the deep midnight blue border that comes from indigo. It frames the rug with great presence and the medallions all over the field also offer a sweet contrast to the ivory background.

These village rugs were woven by nomads who were known to produce the most respected and rare rugs of the NW region. These old pieces have more artistic and creative value attached and the weavers used finer materials. We acquired it out of a private residence in Pacific Palisades, CA.

We are in love with this piece. It is nothing short of grand and when you know you have an original rug hand woven with all natural dyes, this is genuine art that is like no other. It is not easy to find rugs like these and with such size and history. Thank you for taking the time to read!

Condition: Low pile, worn. Hand woven vegetable dyed wool. On a cotton foundation. Has repairs (please see pics). Patched from back to preserve integrity and life. Rug is still durable and made of old world wool that will keep on giving life and story.

Fun facts: Fun facts: Heriz rugs are known for their strength & durability. Coined "the Iron Rug of Iran," Heriz rugs were produced in the Northwest corner of Iran, on and around Mount Sabalan. One reason for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that Mount Sabalan sits on a major deposit of copper. Trace copper in the drinking water of sheep produces the most desired wool for rug weaving because it makes wool that is stronger and more resilient than wool from most other areas. It is said that many Heriz rug designs are woven from memory, with intricate designs passed on through generations of artisans.
