Oh, how this antique flat weave from the Caucasus mountains definitely strikes a pose! Known as strong and durable, these lovely rugs lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak.
This wool on wool rug is super tribal and owns muted and lovely color ways such as that lilac/lavendar; we have not seen another like it. It has sensational, scattered wear throughout, speaking its age. Please see pics for up close detail on the character and condition of the rug (the braided fringes). This baby is quite old, dating back to the 1880s and has a lot more life to give. If you ever run out of floor space, this would make a great wall hanging as well.
