This is a large and amazing Caucasian (Russian origin) Soumak rug from the 1880s and it is worn to perfection.
This wool on wool, flat weave rug was made in the mountains and it features medallions and intricate motifs throughout. The lovely rug lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak. It is highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home.
