9’5 x 11’10 Antique Persian Mahal Rug / 9x12 vintage rug (#1257)

Regular price $0.01

So much to love about this rug. Let’s start with the facts: antique and with large, over scale medallions, a double rarity. This woven piece is from Persia, from a village called Mahal. The rugs from this region are known to be softer and this low pile rug has loads to offer. It features nice, wide borders and on a blue ground with tons of abrash (variation of natural dyes). The field sits on a madder red ground with a floral design that makes a statement.

Mahal rugs from Persia have been treasured for their luxurious color and pattern for decades and are becoming a trend-setter rug among interior designers for their sophisticated and super decorative aesthetic. This 1920’s Mahal is in excellent condition for its age and was woven with high quality and all natural wool that was dyed with vegetables, plants and flowers.

Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool. From the 1920s.
