9'1 x 12'4 Antique Persian French blue ground Tabriz Rug (#2418ML)

Regular price $0.01

With its exotic palette, this fanciful Tabriz stands out from the crowd. These rugs are considered some of the most respected, as Tabriz is one of the oldest weaving centers of the country and are reputed to hold the highest standards of craftsmanship. They have an exceptional weave and are distinguished.

But wait, there's so much more. Persians with a French blue ground are hard to come by and with the complementarily flaxen gold color of this room size piece, it's well balanced and will enhance the atmosphere with great decor. The wool on this rug from the 1920s was skillfully woven and each knot was packed tight. It's low pile, but hefty with a very sturdy cotton foundation. This Persian will effortlessly serve for centuries to come with great durability.

If you take a closer look, you can see that the women on the loom changed the batch of vegetable dyed wool they were working with as the edge guard at the bottom border features splashes of red yarn that was used. This is likely indicative of the fact that the weaver was running out of the wool used to produce this carpet. It is very telling of the authenticity and value of handwoven art of this size and caliber.

Hand knotted in Persia circa 1920 with all natural vegetable dyed wool.
