This distinctive and stunning oversized antique Indian rug is what peaceful and tranquil dreams are made of. Persian weavers may have introduced this amazing art form to the people of India, but Indians have elevated and mastered the dying process, which has contributed to vibrant and unique color stories in their gorgeous rugs.

With a rich cobalt blue ground in the main field, meandering trees and flowers in neutral tones like ivory and golden beige catch the eye while they encircle the central medallion. Lovely pigeons are illustrated throughout this beauty, symbolizing peace and harmony. Majestic lions, symbolizing power, courage, pride, and confidence within the Indian culture, hunt along with leopards, which symbolize protection. Touches of hunter green and steel grey hug the perimeter of the center, while the border continues the nature-inspired theme with flowers, branches, and pigeons in beige, ivory, and cobalt blue. You'll also find the imperial cypress trees that stem back 4,000 years in history in the ancient gardens. They're known to be the longest living (or lived) trees. In antique carpets, these motifs are symbolic for "everlasting life" and are a sight to see, where weavers leave it as a prominent clue for us to know their cultural history and heritage and beliefs.

Circa 1880-1900, hand-woven with natural vegetable dyes, this heavenly rug was made in Northern India. With soft wool and a low pile, there is scattered wear highlighting its previous life. Very special in many ways, this prized rug would be a wonderful addition to any space needing a sense of calmness, peace, and harmony. This vision is priced below what a brick and mortar store would charge, thus a sensational deal.
