Circa 1920, this beautiful antique Persian Lilihan rug is a fabulous example of this sentiment. It has been skillfully woven with a very detailed design, which gives a window into the artistic minds of the women that wove it. The all-over highly stylized floral art of the center field with vibrant colors, such as navy blue, khaki, ivory, and brick red against a rich, saturated coral ground delights the eyes. Some of the floral motifs are peacock-like and draws the eye in for more details. The navy blue border with khaki, brown, and salamander provides a gorgeous contrast to the wonderfully colorful center field.
Speaking of the border, it is a little meatier than the central field, which has more wear and a lower pile with aged character in some parts of the main field. This lovely rug was dyed using natural materials such as vegetables, roots, plants, and other resources, which gives it this exceptional saturation of rich and exquisite colors. Color gradients can be admired throughout the floral motifs. The vibrant dyes will be cheerful for the home; a happy rug.
Visually empowering, this beauty is heavy duty and will withstand being placed in a high-traffic area. This rug has a single weft construction, which makes the rug a little more flexible in hand versus the Sarouk rugs, that are similar to them, but have a much stiffer handle.
