Feast your eyes on this magnificent antique 1900’s Persian Bidjar rug. Just taking in the sheer size and color story of this fantastic work of art for the floor is mesmerizing. It’s a spectacular piece and truly an outstanding example of world class art in a palatial sized rug at nearly 12x18 and we’re proud to have it in the collection and at amazing value.
The ivory ground is exquisite and rare to find, providing an awesome backdrop to the phenomenal array of large medallions in light and deep coral, navy blue, teal, French blue, light blue, maroon-brown, sage green and more. This special, old soul has an amazing balance and harmony with small and large scale motifs and medallions that draw you in and make you wonder. Meandering blossom-laden vines encircle each medallion showcasing their unique designs with their own displays of color, art, and flow.
The striking main border with its graphic and bold botanical themed with turtle elements woven in against the navy blue really grounds the airy feel of the ivory center field. Floral motifs against a coral ground in the smaller borders provide a wonderful accent to the lovely medallions. The abrash, a variation of color, from all the vegetable dyes used to dye the wool can be seen throughout the entire rug, adding to the specialness of this fabulous one of a kind palatial Persian.
Antique Bidjar rugs are pound for pound the heaviest of Persian rugs and are commonly known as the “Iron Rugs of Persia.” They are extremely durable and can handle high traffic areas. These rugs were handwoven to withstand generations of use. This beauty is low pile and in good condition for its age. It is ready to reside in any space needing a real statement piece with song and story.
Fringes that are in the pictures were add-ons and have been removed in order to keep in accordance with the rug's authenticity and to the original form to which it was woven.
