This little beauty travels to us from a Russian village in the Caucasus mountains. It was woven with a diamond lattice pattern in the field and rosettes in the border. The natural dyes are calm and have aged well. Rugs from this region are very sought after by Caucasian rug collectors. Undoubtedly, a woman wove this rug, and when completed, it was sold as a source of life income.
There is definite love for the artwork with the floral/geometrical design that is all over. The muted, all natural dyes are delicious and the rug has character, showing off its age of 140+ years. This rug has come with history and its own natural character with some wear and tear on the side. It's at a great deal and can fit those pesky, narrow spaces too!
Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool, on a wool foundation. From the 1880s.
