Made of vegetable dyed wool and non-dyed camel hair, this amazing runner has a powerful presence and comes from the mountainous areas of NW Persia. The wool was spun from the weaver's own camels and it is has exceptional quality and earth tones with intricate details that is hard not to love.
This runner comes from remote Persian villages and is considered rare. We date this back to the 1920s. Most of these pieces were woven circa 1900-1930. Some date back as far as mid 19th Century. These unique pieces with the soft camel color and diamond medallions as we see here are quite popular for their grace and sophistication. If you look closely in the field, you'll notice the two tone lattice-work that looks like honeycomb. In the dominant medallions, you'll see fish. The edge guard border in green and midnight blue is said to be the age old "fence of security", which is another symbol demonstrating the most valuable and most essential thing...LIFE. The fence of security woven was considered sacred and woven in as a means of protection.
This Persian village rug is clean and in great shape for its age. With its durable and lustrous wool, it will be able to take on a great deal of abuse and still keep on giving.
