Talk about AMAZING. This antique Persian Malayer definitely commands attention and in the greatest way. It is no young lamb...this gorgeous gem has 150+ years of life.
With its art, gracefulness, color ways and sensational character earned through time, it is the gift that keeps on giving. This is the kind of art on the floor your friends will notice and talk about. It is also the runner of your dreams that you get to live with, for decades to come. Check out the calm and subtle color ways on the wool, with the irresistible and all natural dyes that have so beautifully aged. You will also see the shades of dyes changing. They were likely different batches of wool that were dyed, as this is vegetal (aka vegetable) dyed wool rug (from plant, fruit, and vegetables).
:: Low pile and in worn condition, from the 1860s.
Like all of the most artistic village rugs, older antique Malayer carpets are excellent investments which are just now beginning to approach the full recognition they deserve. Malayer is a large village located between the major weaving areas of Hamadan and Sarouk in Northwest Persia. Malayer and the surrounding villages produced some of the most ornate village weavings. At the finer levels, each Malayer Oriental carpet is distinct, the weavers having drawn on a large pool of designs, investing much originality in their creation.
