From the region of Caucasus, this antique vegetable dyed Shirvan rug is in great condition for its age and features a lovely geometric design with amazing all over motifs. If you look closely, it has a couple of animal elements too, indicating to us how tribal this little gem is. Rugs from this region are termed Caucasian, also known as old Russians. Undoubtedly, a woman wove this rug, and when completed, it was sold as a source of life income.
It was hand knotted with naturally dyed wool and it has a super fine weave. This rug from circa 1880 is considered rare and many like to collect them, having been produced from expert dyers and weavers. We are proud to have this beauty in the collection and while it is a little higher investment vs other rugs of this size in the shop, it is still priced very well and it is a great value buy as this is a fine antique rug.
Low pile and in good condition for its age, with a few minor areas of scuffs, at the fringes. Please see pics. This old rug will ship with a rug pad on the house.
