5’6 x 7’1 Antique Kazak Rug (#1387ML)

Regular price $1,800.00

Woven in the region of Caucasus mountains, this 140+ year old vegetable dyed wool Kazak embodies the geometric and bold design and color that are traditional features of these rugs. Perhaps that is why they are some of the most widely collected and prized of the Caucasian rugs. Some of the earliest Kazaks woven date back as far as 1700 BC.

This worn Kazak was woven with wool on a soft wool foundation. All the colors you see are from all natural dyes that was hand knotted to make this tribal gem and the differentiation of color shades throughout is abrash, a natural characteristic of old rugs woven with several batches of naturally dyed wool.

In the field we see several tribal elements including ram horns surrounding, which represent power. In the main border, we see scorpions, which symbolizes pride and liberty. In the inner and outer edge guard, we see running water, which the tribal people respected and represented in their weaving, as it was a needed and nourishing life source for themselves and their animals. Every knot here tells its story.
