Antique 1920s Persian Rug / 4'5 x 6'2 Persian Rug #4389

Regular price $1,800.00

This antique Persian from the 1920s is one of those rugs that feels strong the moment you handle it. Stout, sturdy, and woven with purpose. It's the kind of construction that was meant to live a real life on the floor. Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool in the weaving district of Hamadan, it has a dense, durable structure that makes it a fantastic candidate for higher traffic spaces like an entry, hallway, or hardworking room of the house.

The field is packed with small scale boteh, those beloved paisley forms sprawled across the surface in repetition. Within the field sits a large diamond medallion that anchors the composition and gives the eye a place to land. The vegetable dyes bring gorgeous life to the wool, creating streaks of abrash that shift gently through the reds and deeper tones… those natural color changes that only time and traditional dye methods can produce.

The borders are a treat on this one with a nice, contrasting ivory caterpillar border that wraps the field and brings a bright frame to the piece, while multiple guard bands create layers of continuity in the design. Along the outer edge guard you can spot motifs that feel very much like mountain forms… little geometric nods to the landscape that influenced so many village weavers.

In the corner spandrels, set against a charcoal ground, are wonderful little creatures woven into the story…fish motifs, peacocks, and other nature inspired elements that add personality and symbolism to the rug.

There is scattered wear from age and use, but the weave and construction remains solid and capable. A beautiful, hardworking Persian with great pattern, natural dyes, and the kind of durability that keeps an old rug going for another generation. Everyone needs a masterpiece underfoot.
