Bold and stout. This little antique Persian Malayer was woven in the 1930s and it has not quieted down one bit with age. The field is a deep midnight navy, nearly charcoal when you first look at it. It's packed with saturated coral-red motifs including fish motifs woven into the design, with a larger central medallion anchoring the whole composition that draws your eye in. The corner spandrels pop within the field, too, and anchor the piece well. It has a lot of spirit this little one, it makes a major statement.
The main border runs a continuous floral chain and it possesses village Malayer craftsmanship, tightly drawn and full of character. The dyes are saturated and still vivid: deep navy, coral red, blush pink, forest green, indigo blue, warm ivory. and some hints of sky blue. Hand-knotted wool with the pile low and with scattered wear. This rug has lived, and it shows in the best way. Solid structure, age-related wear throughout, and a powerful presence that punches well above its weight.
At 2'7 × 3'10, it's the perfect little accent that will ground a space with pop and personalty. Great for a bathroom, a bedroom landing, a reading nook, a small entryway. Anywhere you want a hundred years of Persian tribal history underfoot.
A custom cut rug pad will come along with this little one, on the house.
