Antique Indian Agra carpets are considered some of the most decorative pieces known internationally. They are heavy and extremely durable wool rugs and the artisans learned to weave when they learned how from the Persians in the 17th Century.
Agra to help reference and locate is actually home to the Taj Mahal. This very distressed rug is from 1880-1900 and like most Agra, what really separates it from Persian rugs is the ground color. You'll see the seafoam green ground is a rarely seen color. It is large and in charge and the rug is worn, with a sturdy handle. Please see detailed pics for full character and condition. The very last pic shows the rug from the underside, which is richer and with less distress. You can style this rug on either side!
