Oh the beautiful colors!!! This is the real deal - antique, locked in with so much age and even though a century has passed, this gorgeous beast keeps on giving. From the Caucasus mountains, this late 19th Century piece is from a district called Shirvan, which wove the most sophisticated antique rugs of this region.
This runner has geometric ornamentation and a lot of visual impact in the most profound way. You will notice the gorgeous vegetable dyes evident with abrash, i.e. different batches of the naturally dyed wool used to weave this piece. In parts of the border for example, you can see the change from navy blue dye to sky blue. You will also notice some very meaningful elements, such as a woman who appears to be dancing in one corner of the field of this runner and there are also several animals woven in, which is very symbolic to the tribal people and their surroundings.
Please see pics up close for condition. This old runner is worn and has some patches.
