This old Russian from the 1880s was woven by women in the Caucasus mountains and it is perfectly love worn. It features Membling Gul motifs, famous elements that we see in these old rugs. The “Memling Gul” pattern refers to the German born painter, Hans Memling (1430-1494), who often featured Oriental Rugs with this motif in his paintings.
This gem is low pile, worn and was handwoven on a wool foundation. All the dyes you see are completely natural, from all the resources the tribespeople had around to use (veggies, plants and flowers).
We recommend a rug pad as it is a softer/floppier rug by nature. We have them in shop. Here is the link if you'd like to add it to purchase:
This is a definite heirloom we are proud to have in the collection and offering it at a great deal compared to the brick and mortar prices out there.
