This warm bodied, antique rug from the Caucasus mountains has great depth, luminous and soft vegetable dyed wool. The changes in dyes that you see in the field that goes from light to dark is completely organic, from the different batches of wool that the women used when weaving this scatter rug. It points to the true craftsmanship and art at play when hands are on the loom. If you look down to the fringes, you can see the raw and beautiful sheep's wool, which is the foundation to this folkloric piece.
It is a clean rug, but does have an old stain from one part of it's life. Please see pics (with the marker). It sort of camouflages in.
Low pile. Handwoven circa 1880. All natural, vegetable dyed wool.
