A square, old rug...not easy to find. If you've been hunting and adoring rugs for a while, you'll immediately notice the difference here in this beautiful and soulful Afshar rug. From circa 1880, this hand woven wool on wool antique rug comes from a Persian tribal group that is known for their unique aesthetic and craftsmanship. Afshar rugs we are lucky to cherish today hold up their legacy. The wool is exquisite and old world. It is low pile and floppy. The ground color of this rug is midnight blue, derived from all natural indigo. The paisleys in the field represent the "seed of life", aka fertility. Women wove this rug and the elements are key to their story and what they believe in. If you notice, the tree of life is also woven into the paisley. Amazing history here.
Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool.
