4'7 x 6'5 antique Malayer rug

Regular price $1,050.00

A highly decorative Persian Malayer on an indigo blue ground. Features a large and beautiful floral-geometric central medallion. Hand knotted in the 1920s with all natural, vegetable dyed wool. It is low and even pile throughout. Beautiful abrash (natural dye variation) throughout.

Like all of the most artistic village rugs, older antique Malayer carpets are excellent investments which are just now beginning to approach the full recognition they deserve.

Malayer is a large village located between the major weaving areas of Hamadan and Sarouk in the Northwest of Persia. Malayer and the surrounding villages produced some of the most ornate of Persian village weavings. At the finer levels, each Malayer Oriental carpet is distinct, the weavers having drawn on a large pool of designs, investing much originality in their creation.
