Kurdistan is known around the globe for their amazing rugs and we carry a whole bunch of them here at BPR. The all over patterns are a classic design within the tradition of making these Kurdish masterpieces and each of the rugs tell a story with their sequence of symbols woven.
This Persian Kurdish offers a lot of moodiness and depth with it's floral boteh (seeds of life) throughout the navy blue ground central diamond medallion and surrounding. It features accents of ivory, shades of terracotta, blue and more. It has the "S" in one of the borders and some consider that to a symbol of the sun (the life giving force) of the Zoroastrian people. It also has been thought of as a protective symbol, to ward off evil eye. You'll also notice the floral geometric sequence on the edge guard as well as the jagged mountain motifs on the rug.
It's in the special "gallery size" to really work with spaces that demand something particular. It is low pile and naturally distressed through time, on a wool foundation which makes it have a really nice and floppy handle. This piece is from circa 1880-1900 and is intact with some small, old repairs. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool.
