Floor art? Yes, please!!
This is a circa 1910 all over pattern, floral-geometric heriz. We go bananas for these. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool and worn to absolute perfection, this rug has so much to offer.
A nice n large size, it will definitely make a statement but not dominate the space with itäó»s design, color ways and aesthetic. The all over pattern design makes it easier and fun to style and it is clearly very desirable floor art to enjoy.
The ground color of mellow madder red is calm, with the color of wool that has a flat tone since it is from all natural sources/dyes. The borders are exquisite and hug the rug so nicely with a beautiful contrast. Nothing synthetic here! Old, fine quality wool, hand knotted and what must have taken a couple years to produce, and undoubtedly, with a few dyers and weavers.
This rug of Persia has has some scattered wear and a few small areas of wear to foundation which has been mended. It has another good century of use. These rugs are made to last forever. Please remember this is a hand knotted rug, so it will not be perfect like a machine made rug or newer vintage rugs.

More about this rug: Heriz rugs are known for their outstanding durability. Coined "the Iron Rug of Persia," Heriz rugs were produced in the Northwest corner of Persia, on and around Mount Sabalan. One reason for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that Mount Sabalan sits on a major deposit of copper. Trace copper in the drinking water of sheep produces the most desired wool for rug weaving because it makes wool that is stronger and more resilient than wool from most other areas. It is said that many Heriz rug designs are woven from memory, with intricate designs passed on through generations of artisans.
