This antique Persian Senneh is prized for its fine handwoven work and these scatter rugs are distinct for they have a single wefted technique in their construction with use of interlaced warps. They are absolutely particular and in a class of its own when it comes to Persians.
This is a fabulous accent rug, featuring a very symbolic cypress tree in the field on a warm, ivory ground. They say the cypress tree represents eternal life, a motif if you will, known as tree of life...that extends beyond life here on earth. Cypress trees were abundant in Persia and in many gardens throughout the lush country.
This will be a great piece as a floor piece or wall hanging. The fringes you see are add ons on this antique scatter rug. From circa 1900.
