This wonderful antique 1900s Turkoman/Turkmen tribal rug would be a great addition to any space needing a bit of historical charm. These types of rugs are often found woven in smaller sizes because of the size of the looms used and the nomadic lifestyles of the weavers.
This lovely rug has a linear elephant foot track pattern within the central field in ivory, mauve, rose red, and navy blue against a mocha brown ground. Eight pointed star motifs can be seen throughout the main field symbolizing happiness and fertility. The striking border design includes triangles and a hook motif that is used to ward off the evil eye.
Handwoven on a soft wool foundation with wool dyed with organic vegetables, plants, and flowers, this beauty has a low pile with a wonderful texture and a floppy handle. For the sake of preservation, this beautiful antique rug has gone to Rug Rehab and have had some repairs done. Please see pics for more visual detail of character and condition.
