Woven in the region of Caucasus, this vegetable dyed wool Kazak embodies the geometric and bold design and color that are traditional features of these rugs. Perhaps that is why they are some of the most widely collected and prized of the Caucasian rugs. Some of the earliest Kazaks woven date back as far as 1700 BC.
These rugs are very powerful in design and durability. Hand knotted with very soft wool on a wool foundation, this Kazak has coarse knots and a striking design featuring powerful medallions in the field. The elements you see in the main border are scorpions! So tribal! These are old world elements and quite symbolic about the weavers, their beliefs and culture.
This rug has wear, but it is a durable Caucasus rug with many moons to go!
