There are rugs that fill a room…and then there are rugs that become the room. This antique Tabriz is the latter, with a presence that will be seen and felt. Handwoven sometime in the 1920s, it holds a field of deep red with the most beautiful orange undertone glowing beneath, like embers that never quite went out. The vegetable dyes are phenomenal.
The all-over floral design unfurls across the field in every direction… vases, blossoms, flowering vines, and all the flowers that will live on forever. A navy border frames it beautifully, layered with more curvilinear art.
The pile is low, but you’ll feel the meat of it. There’s scattered wear from a century of life, and the vegetable dyed wool has aged gracefully. Minor wool loss in a few spots (see up close pics), but structurally this rug is stout and solid; the foundation is strong, the weave is tight, and it has every intention of going for generations more.
