This fine antique Persian Tabriz is a wild one. At 8’3 x 11’2, it features a very tribal design…not typical for Tabriz, where curvilinear floral work usually takes center stage. The tight, fine weave points to a Tabriz artisan, but the layout leans strongly Heriz in spirit…almost like it was woven on order for someone who wanted that bolder, more edgy, architectural look.
The central medallion anchors the piece with strong symmetry, while the field is packed with angular botanical forms, latch-hook style leaves, and small rosettes that feel almost electric against it’s gorgeous and deeply saturated ground.
The border sits with a deep navy frame, loaded with geometric florals and classic Heriz-style movement like those iconic serrated leaves; it gives the whole rug a grounded edge. The wool is extremely high quality…soft to the touch with a lovely sheen. This part though, truly, is such magnificence and can be seen through photos, but just imagine the feeling in person. It will awaken the senses. The natural dyes are incredibly brilliant, and the color contrast is on point, with great presence. It has a nice, even pile, handwoven with vegetable dyed wool. Near mint and in exceptional condition. A seriously high-grade Persian from the 1920s… and not one you see every day.
