3'3 x 8'10 Antique Caucasian Runner #2999ML

Regular price $1,800.00

This antique 1880s Caucasian runner is a wonderful testament to the skilled craftsmanship of the tribal and nomadic weavers of the Caucasus Mountains, located north of Persia. This runner features a wild and striking design that tells a story of cultural significance and it showcases calm vegetable dyes and its amazing age.

The main pattern of the runner follows a diagonal graphic motif with scrolls resembling S hook motifs. These motifs were traditionally believed to ward off the evil eye, providing protection and bringing good fortune to the owner. The S hook motifs can also be seen intricately woven into the border bands, complementing the overall design.

Adding to its charm, the runner showcases eight-pointed star motifs, symbolizing happiness and fertility. These stars are strategically placed in a border band enveloping the rug perfectly, offering a touch of symbolism and cultural meaning to this piece of floor art.

Handwoven with natural vegetable dyes, this runner boasts a softened color palette that has developed character and depth over time. The aged vegetable dyes lend warmth and richness to the colors, which harmoniously blend warm and cool tones together, resulting in a visually pleasing color story.

Due to the artisanal nature of the weaving process, slight variations in the color of the border bands may be observed. These variations occur when different batches of colored wool were used, adding a touch of uniqueness and individuality to the runner.

The runner's foundation is made of wool, contributing to its floppy handle and authentic feel. The low pile indicates years of use and adds to the runner's antique allure, showcasing its rich history and the footfalls of those who came before. With its intricate design, symbolic motifs, softened color palette, and worn character, it brings a touch of history and beauty to any space it adorns.
