4'1 x 6'2 Antique Malayer Rug

Regular price $0.01

This late 19th Century rug is a great treasure! It is time softened and the natural dyes and design is just sensational with immense character. The wear is simply delicious and this is an absolute bargain buy.

The field has a central medallion and the borders have turtle elements throughout that the artisan weaved in. You can see the variation and shades in all of the natural dyes in the rug. Just so lovely and a great piece of history for the home or even office!

Hand knotted circa 140 years ago with all natural, vegetable dyed wool. It is low and even pile throughout.

Like all of the most artistic village rugs, older antique Malayer carpets are excellent investments which are just now beginning to approach the full recognition they deserve.

Malayer is a large village located between the major weaving areas of Hamadan and Sarouk in Northwest of Persia. Malayer and the surrounding villages produced some of the most ornate of Persian village weavings. At the finer levels, each Malayer Oriental carpet is distinct, the weavers having drawn on a large pool of designs, investing much originality in their creation.
