4'2 x 9'2 Antique Shiraz Rug #2275

Regular price $1,700.00

Step into the world of Persian art and culture with this beautiful antique 1880s Persian Shiraz rug. This wonderful rug came from Shiraz, a city known for a number of historical and cultural sites. Its quality and craftsmanship are unparalleled, woven by nomadic tribes in the south of Persia, and taken into the main bazaar to be sold to traders who would then sell them to smaller traders or export them.

This unique piece of tribal art is a true gem with its intricate symbolic elements, animal motifs, and graphic patterns that have stood the test of time. The weaver of this fantastic rug was inspired by the nature they saw in their environment, resulting in a stunning design that is a tribute to the wildlife of the region. The depiction of gazelles adds an exotic touch, while the mountain motifs in the border band is reminiscent of the rugged terrain of the south west region of Persia.

Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool, the muddy color ways with warm and cool tones are a true reflection of the natural hues of the surrounding environment, and the wool pile on a wool foundation gives it a floppy handle with a soft feel. While it may show some signs of wear, this only adds to its charm. Please see pics for full character and condition. This beauty is a timeless piece that will bring personality and style to any space it resides in.
