This beautifully worn antique Persian rug, crafted by the Afshar tribe around 1880, shows off the artistry and legacy of a community hailing from the southeastern region of Persia. These distinct rugs, often found in smaller sizes, are incredibly rare, and it is believed that few, if any, members of the Afshar tribe remain today. The wool used in this rug came from their own flock of sheep, further enhancing its uniqueness and historical value.
Swan-like motifs gracefully standout within the main field surrounded by abstract patterns in an array of colors that convey a celebration of life. This well-worn rug possesses remarkable depth and dimension, highlighted by its multiple border bands that strongly define the rug and offer continuous movement of delightful floral motifs.
Although this gem has a knotted weave in the field, but the fringes display a different technique, a flatweave that adorn both the top and bottom edges of the rug. The ends exhibit signs of wear, giving them a weathered appearance, and their triangular design may evoke the imagery of the majestic mountains to the west in Persia.
