9'3 x 16' Battered and Bruised Persian Kermanshah Rug #2860

Regular price $0.01

Discover the beauty and craftsmanship of an antique Persian Kermanshah rug, handwoven with vegetable dyed wool circa 1880 in the mountainous region of Kurdistan in southeast Persia. This remarkable piece features an ivory field and ivory border, intricately adorned with elaborate floral work and curvilinear art, creating an incredibly spacious and grand design. The grand central medallion and spandrels add a highly decorative element to this rug, enhancing its overall allure. Moreover, the gorgeous border bands with intricate detailing showcase the exceptional weaving skills of the artisans.

Kermanshah rugs are finely knotted and are a prized subgroup of Lavar Kerman rugs with a vivid jewel-toned palette. The European market fell in love with these rugs in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and many of them lived there for decades on end.

Condition: This rug has seen a lot of life, and it is battered and bruised. Areas with loss of wool have been secured with patches on the underside. Please see pics for full character and condition. Priced very fairly, commensurate with age, history and wear.

This beauty is a testament to the rich history and artistry of Persian weaving. Its value extends beyond its age and quality; it carries with it a piece of cultural heritage that is invaluable, bringing style, elegance, and grace to any space it calls home.
