With wide borders, rich natural dyes, large diamond medallions, this antique flat weave from the Caucasus mountains definitely strikes a pose! Known as strong and durable, these lovely rugs lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak. This wool on wool rug was NW of Persia and is super tribal. It has sensational, scattered wear throughout, speaking its age.
You will see abrash (natural shades of dyes to color) throughout, which is so beautiful and indicative of this antique hand woven gem. It is a very old piece, highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home. It was woven in the late 19th Century, circa 1880.
