This is a nice sized flat weave 1920s Soumak with such a beautiful presence and vivid color ways! These beautiful tribal rugs are Caucasians (Russian origin) that are very loved and collected by many. They are distinct rugs from the Mt. Sabalon area, north of Persia. With rich, natural vegetable dyes, this is a strong and durable flat weave; the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique is known as “Soumak”.
From the mountainside, this piece in exquisite condition features large diamond medallions and intricate motifs throughout. The borders have ram horns and the edge guard element is known as “running water”. All these elements are meaningful to the weavers and we get to cherish their story and culture of once upon a time.
Simply put, this highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home.
