Woven in the 1880s and brimming with good cheer, this antique Persian Sultanabad Mahal is like a happy stroll through a sunny garden. Its ivory field hosts two loose rows of larger medallions, each one playfully tangled with floral flourishes and dainty vines. Surrounding all this whimsy are intricately detailed border bands with deeper, moodier hues that politely take a step back to let the lively center do its thing.
The palette is earthy and warm, on an antique ivory ground, with wool dyed from flowers, leaves, roots, and vegetables. Every bit of wear, every softened line, tells a tale and adds to the charm.
This rug is large and soulful, ready to anchor a room with quiet flair. It doesn’t beg for attention but has a way of making everything around it feel more relaxed, more lived-in, and just a little more delightful.
Low pile, worn, parallel to age and history. Has a lovely, floppy handle. Rug is fully intact with repaired areas. Please see pics for full character and condition.
