This is a late 19th Century hand woven Mashhad rug, from NE Persia. It is large and in charge, with a naturally distressed style that has aged organically through time. We sure have a ton of pics to show off its detail, so please dive in and check out all of this grand beauty.
This large over oversize Persian has a grand medallion in the center of the rug and owns a sophisticated design with some classical floral art. The midnight blue borders and curvilinear hand work and woven design is spectacular. The wool on this rug is of great weight and amazing quality...it is worn, ancient and a heavy bodied rug. We gave this old beauty some TLC through Rug Rehab and recently restored some of the areas and re-secured the ends of the rug.
Mashhad is a major producer of Persian rugs for hundreds of years and known to have some of the finest wool in their rugs. They possess a somewhat heavy handle to them and particular weave that makes them stand out. We have given some care and rehab to this rug and it is ready for its next home. You can definitely style this rug on either side of it, so feel free to take to the side you like the most.
