Woven in Western Turkey, it carries those mellow, sun washed dyes that Oushaks are loved for… the coral blushes, slate blue-grays, soft sages and olive, warm ivory, and whisper blues that feel easy and lived in. The all over design is classic to antique Turkish rugs…large scale medallions and floating motifs that give movement across the field without feeling busy. Your eye just glides.
True to Oushak weaving, the handle is loose, floppy and beautifully heavy…imagine a giant wool blanket with presence. You can fold it like a throw and still feel how weighty and luxurious it is in hand. For a rug this enormous, that is part of the magic. These rugs were never produced in high quantities at this scale, which makes a surviving piece from this era incredibly rare. Large Oushaks like this were originally woven for estates and monumental homes and very few remain in the world today.
Low pile but with good fluff, mellow and beautifully worn in. A handful of small areas were professionally patched and are impressively hard to spot…just quiet restorations that keep the integrity of the piece.
The design language shows off what the old Oushak workshops did best…open space, soft geometry, floating lotus forms, cloud band touches, hooked angular motifs and medallions that feel oversized in a way only antique Turkish rugs pull off. These elements create grounding energy and fill a room with calm grandeur.
This is one of the largest rugs ever to come through the BPR collection and its scale will anchor a room with presence. A soulful antique of this size and age is genuinely scarce and incredibly special to find…a gentle giant ready for its next chapter.
