This 1920s Persian rug, measuring 10’1 x 16’5, is a stunning display of artistry from the weaver of the village of Bibikabad, within the greater Hamadan region. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool, the color story pulls you in immediately…gorgeous with lake blues that pop against a warm terra cotta, almost apricot-toned ground. Subtle abrash can be seen throughout, making this a truly one of a kind.
The design, the movement…the field is full and active, with grand scale medallions that anchor the composition, while the surrounding detail creates a sense of flow…almost like the design is in motion. In the main border, there are stylized turtle motifs. Can you see them? Amazing, old tribal rugs are the best!
This piece carries a low pile with substantial structure and weight…a rug that feels as good as it looks. The construction is solid, sturdy, and built to last, with that unmistakable old-world wool under hand.
This antique beauty has the magnitude to ground a room and the value that no one can miss or dispute. Old rugs like this carry something deeper…woven by hand over the course of years, leaving us with a true masterpiece to cherish. In excellent condition, with a great presence and soul.
