This Heriz packs a lot. From the Northwest mountains of Persia, a tribal energy that will give the space it lives in undeniable, powerful art. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool in the 1920s, rich and alive with color and presence and at 10' x 13', it’s the perfect room-defining size…big enough to anchor a full seating area, substantial enough that you feel it underfoot the moment you step on it.
The healthy wool is heavy, dense, and lustrous with a sheen that catches the light as you move through the room. This is not a delicate rug. It’s weighted and will anchor a home.
At its heart sits a coral medallion that blooms like a kaleidoscope and is layered with geometry unfolding outward in rings of rose pink, inky navy, ivory, and camel, surrounded by a field of deep crimson that hums with life. The all-over design fills every inch with beauty…palmettes, angular vines, edgy serrated leaves, and florals woven throughout. The ivory corner spandrels surrounding and hugging the field give the entire composition brightness and balance, keeping the whole palette singing.
The colors throughout are warm and wonderfully complex: deep crimson and burgundy…coral and dusty rose…navy and many shades of blue…ivory and warm cream…golden camel and olive, and teal…flashes of saffron yellow. Lots for the eyes to capture. A century of vegetable dye, still vibrant. Condition is excellent for its age and ready for its next chapter. Please check out the video clip of the rug below, too.
