3'7 x 10'2 Antique Caucasian Runner with Eagle Art (#746)

Regular price $0.01

Talk about magical and TRIBAL! This antique runner woven in Caucasus mountains definitely commands attention and in the greatest way. It is no young lamb...this gorgeous gem has 150+ years of life. It is not only one of a kind, it is simply DISTINCT.

With a character earned solely through time, this old runner features amazing art history and symbolic elements that tell more of its story. Hand woven with vegetable dyed wool and on a wool foundation, the artisans featured what collectors identify as eagles in the field of the runner. Most of the cultural symbols have their origins wrapping around folk mythology, folklore, religion, art and history. The eagle is a symbol of courage, wisdom and freedom to these mountain nomads. In the border, you will notice the 8 pointed star, which is a cross cultural symbol and we see them in these old rugs from the middle ages. They say that it represents "the seal of the prophets".

This highly decorative antique has various shades of dyes throughout, which is termed "abrash". These are different batches of the natural dyes that were used while on the loom, which all the more lends to the art and style of this piece.
