High impact abrash is the headline here. And if you’re unfamiliar with abrash…this is the part where old rug magic takes over. The natural vegetable dyes shift and roll dramatically through the field…deep to light…warm to cool…almost like the rug changes mood as your eye moves across it. You can literally watch the life of the wool and the dye lots unfold row by row. It’s the kind of variation collectors chase because it cannot be replicated in a convincing way. This is the beauty of old, vegetable dyed wool and hand weaving over time…different dye batches being used by the women at the loom across the span of months, creating movement and tonal shifts that make every antique rug completely one of a kind.
This 1920s Persian runner measures 3x8 and carries a wonderfully small scale tribal field framed by a lovely continuous floral chain border and a crisp diamond motif edge guard that keeps the whole composition feeling grounded and graphic. The contrast between the darker saturated sections and the faded softened areas is incredible. She has movement. Energy. Soul.
Low pile with a stable, durable handle and a heavier build that still feels substantial underfoot. Vegetable dyed wool throughout. One area of wool loss as shown in photos, but structurally still stout and ready for life.
