Long, lean, and absolutely electric...this antique Persian Serab is the kind of rug that was likely woven on order, a century back. At 7'1 x 17'4, and for today's time, it'll be outstanding for grand spaces...a sweeping gallery entry, a dramatic dining room, a hallway that deserves a standing ovation. The deep navy ground is alive with an allover boteh design, those iconic paisley-shaped motifs known as seeds of life, repeating endlessly across the field.
The multiple border bands frame the field and add great definition...each one intricately detailed with floral vines and geometric repeats. This is high grade Persian wool at its finest...soft to the touch, and with that wonderful low wool pile. The handle of this rug is supple and amazing. Vegetable dyed, hand knotted, and woven in the Serab tradition of northwestern Persia...this rug has the kind of presence that simply cannot be replicated.
Condition is excellent for a 1920s antique. The wool is sound, the colors are rich and deep, and this long beauty is ready to anchor any room lucky enough to hold it.
