Woven between 1880 and 1900, this antique Caucasian runner (woven in the mountains north of Persia) doesn’t whisper its age, it winks. A parade of boteh motifs, those curvy little paisleys, march in a loose lattice across a sandy ivory field. But look closer, each boteh contains a running water motif, a rare little element within. The natural dyes, made from flowers, plants, and vegetables, create a bold color play that dances across the low pile.
The fence-of-security motifs keep watch at the edges with pops of sky blue, forming a cheerful perimeter, while the borders spin with pinwheels of life and another row of fence motifs for good measure, double the protection, double the charm. Just narrow enough to charm the most peskiest of hallways.
Low pile. Scattered wear. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool.
